null International conference in Sombor

The Ombudsman for the Rights of Minorities in Hungary attended the international conference "Deutsche Minderheit und Europa" in May 23-24. The Serbian and Hungarian offices of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung jointly organized the conference in the town of Sombor in Vojvodina, Serbia.

Representatives of German communities living in the Carpathian Basin and experts of the participating countries have been meeting regularly for nearly ten years to share their experiences with the current situation of German nationality, the evolution of the regulatory environment and the application of the law. After the town of Budaörs in Hungary, the current meeting was held in Sombor, Serbia, where the largest Swabian German community of Vojvodina had lived in the past, and those who remained here, as well as those who moved to Germany, still keep their German traditions actively.

Participants of the event discussed the current challenges of national and municipal level nationality representation in the thematic working groups, the changes in the national legal environment of the countries concerned, in particular, Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine, and the opportunities and problems of producing nationality media content.

The German community in Hungary was represented at the highest level: Imre Ritter, German nationality Member of the Parliament, Ibolya Englenderné Hock, President of the Nationality Self-Government of Germans in Hungary (LdU / MNOÖ) and Hajnalka Gutai, head of office of the MNOÖ.

Special thanks for the invitation and the excellent professional cooperation to Mr. Frank Spengler, Head of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ungarn, as well as to Bence Bauer Project Coordinator, Secretary General of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ungarn.
