Ombudsman Attends Inauguration Ceremony of New Officers at the National University of Public Service

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma attended the inauguration ceremony of new officers of the Faculty of Law Enforcement at the National University of Public Service in Budapest. During the ceremony held in the Kapisztrán Square located in the Buda Castle district, 102 students took an oath of service in front of a replica of the Holy Crown of Hungary and the historical flags.

On 22 June 2020, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma, Deputy Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay and Deputy Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Ombudsman for Future Generations Dr. Gyula Bándi attended the hearing of the Committee on Justice of the National Assembly, where Report no. B/8769 on the activities of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and his Deputies in the year 2019 was discussed.

Statement of the Ombudsman for Future Generations

Ombudsman for Future Generations Dr. Gyula Bándi draws attention to the Constitutional Court decision of great importance, which was issued on 15 June 2020, and which reinforced that it is the obligation of everyone to protect the common heritage of the nation, both the Fundamental Law of Hungary and the example set by our predecessors oblige us to preserve the biological diversity of forests, and that the interests of forest managers should never overshadow environmental considerations.

Commissioner and His Deputy Visit Tarnabod

On 16 June 2020, Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Commissioner for the Rights of National Minorities visited the settlement of Tarnabod in Heves County. The Ombudsman and his Deputy were received by Miklós Vecsei, Vice-President of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, the Prime Minister’s appointee for the coordination of the preparation and implementation of the diagnosis-based catch-up strategy for Roma.
